My visit to Savannah this past December found me at The Desoto Savannah where old Southern charm meets new world luxury.

Located in the heart of Savannah’s Historic District and overlooking Madison Square, The DeSoto is a cherished landmark that perfectly blends the famous southern hospitality with modern luxury. I was met street side greeted with wide arms, warm smiles and immediately felt welcomed. It was Christmas time then and the beautiful lobby was decorated for the celebration.

My check-in was not just a breeze but by a fantastic and exuberant receptionist named Jamila, who welcomed me with an infectious smile and bubbly personality at the Desoto Savannah hotel

As if that wasn’t enough, when I got to my room, I had gifts waiting from the staff. I’m a wine enthusiast, so when I saw the nice Pinot Noir waiting along with some goodies from local vendors, I was thrilled!

It was one of the best welcomes I’ve had in a long time. My room was amazing and had a wonderful view overlooking the river and the bridge in the distance. After settling in, I set out to explore the hotel and I was NOT disappointed by the magnificence of the Desoto Savannah.

One of my favorite things to do when I’m visiting a hotel is to wander around and absorb every inch of it in. I like to watch the staff interact with visitors as well as the interaction between themselves. You get a sense of exactly how a place runs if you can observe it from a distance.

There were gregarious smiles all around. I got the impression that everyone enjoyed their job, which makes a huge difference to the people who stay there. I chatted up some people that were visiting The Desoto Savannah for a company holiday party and even got invited to join in some dancing! I sat in the lobby and quietly watched people going along with their usual work at the hotel.

My sponsor and general manager, Juan Fernandez scheduled a very exciting mycologist lesson with in-house experts Tiffany and KiKi from Edgar’s Proof and Provision, the beautiful bar adjacent to 1540 Room restaurant.

I was with my partner in crime, Linda Beach from Freedom Lifestyle Today. We were entertained and schooled on a few amazing drinks courtesy of Tiffany who even asked us to help her name a drink that she designed personally at the Desoto Savannah hotel.

After our fantastic mixology lesson, we headed over to indulge in a gastronomic affair.

1540 is a beautiful restaurant with an open kitchen and friendly staff. Dinner was a mix of Savannah favorites and chef’s specials. Each one more delicious than the other.

It all started with a delicious cheese board made from locally sourced cheeses, jams, and herbs. Our server kept the goodness coming with a mix of Vegetarian dishes for Linda and beautiful meats for me.

One of my favorites was the pork belly. It was perfectly cooked and was accompanied by a beautiful jam and fresh rosemary. The dishes kept coming and 1540 turned out to be one of my favorite restaurants that I visited during my sponsored stay in the Desoto Savannah.

I’ve been traveling for most of my life and perpetually for 3 years. My greatest moments have been when I’ve connected with people who have a passion for what they do.

Everyone I came in contact with at The Desoto is remarkably motivated. This is the single most important element in running a successful business and attracting people to it, and that’s what The Desoto is all about. The enthusiasm and positivity everyone at the hotel exhibited to me and everyone who walked into the beautiful atrium is palpable and contagious.

I would highly recommend The Desoto, 1540 and Edgar’s Proof and Provisions if you find yourself in Savannah. You won’t have anything less than an exceptional experience.

I want to thank Shannon O’Keefe and Juan Fernandez personally for their extraordinary kindness and hospitality before, during and after my stay.
