Let’s face it, almost everyone loves chocolate cake! It’s a comfort food, perfect end to any meal; center of any great celebration, or a girl’s best friend during…well any time is the right time for chocolate cake!
I set out to find some of the best places in the world that serves this delectable treat. Here is this week’s instalment of Gastronome Wednesday ~ Mmmmm…Chocolate Cake!
Let me start in my own backyard. Singapore is full of wonderful places to eat and if you’re craving dessert you won’t be disappointed. One of the best places I’ve found for delectable chocolate is Matt’s The Chocolate Shop. Most known for their dark chocolate fudge specialties this dessert heaven has the most mouth watering chocolate cake I’ve ever had. The single layer frosting is dreamy smooth and absolutely irresistible! This is definitely the place to go if you’re looking to indulge in chocolate.
There are a myriad of dessert places in NYC and it was very hard to narrow the list down. But one place that stands out is husband and wife owned Clinton Street Baking Co. & Restaurant. The Black & White Layer Cake is simply to die for. The deep, dark chocolate ganache filling, vanilla frosting, and dark chocolate glaze make you think you’ve died and gone to chocolate heaven. It’s made homemade daily and the smell alone sends you’re senses into overdrive.
Spain is home to Bubó, voted the best chocolate cake in the world in 2005.
When you first enter it looks more like a jewelry store than a cake shop. The combination of textures, mouth watering chocolate, and gorgeous displays offers love to all of your senses. My favorite…the Xabina. The combination of 4 biscuit type cakes, praline, and creamy vanilla mousse is a burst of flavor to your palette.
Australia is another foodie paradise and when it comes to chocolate cake OZ sure knows what they’re doing. Tucked down Argyle street in Sydney you’ll find a charming French patisserie, La Renaissance Patisserie and Cafe. Inside among all their delicious baked goods you’ll encounter an amazing cake made of layers of white and dark chocolate, Valrhona chocolate mouse wrapped in folds of Valrhona milk chocolate. If all this chocolate decadence wasn’t enough the cake is Gluten Free! It’s simply genius.
